Slipped Disc (Herniated Disc) Treatment in Hyderabad
Discs serve as protective pads between the vertebrae, the bones of the spine. Each disc consists of a central jelly-like portion called the nucleus, surrounded by a fibrous outer covering called the annulus.
In the case of a slipped disc, the disc doesn’t physically “slip,” but rather, the inner, softer part of the disc (known as the nucleus pulposus) protrudes outward through a weakness in the outer portion of the disc. This condition is alternatively referred to as a herniated disc, ruptured disc, or prolapsed disc.
Slipped Disc: Causes
Symptoms :
Lower back pain can be caused by lumbar disc herniation. When a disc bulges, it can irritate and compress the nerve roots, resulting in symptoms such as sciatica, characterized by pain and/or tingling-numbness in the legs. The specific location and type of symptoms experienced depend on the affected nerve. To alleviate nerve compression, patients may develop spinal list or shift, a natural mechanism. In more severe cases of compression, weakness in the muscles supplied by the affected nerve may occur.
In the case of cervical disc prolapse, patients may experience neck pain that can radiate to the upper extremities. This pain may be accompanied by sensations resembling “pins and needles” in the hand.
